The Internet Can Still Be a Positive Force

Former Senior Vice President of AOL and political activist Mark Walsh makes a convincing argument that the Internet is broken. He believes that as soon as people started making money on the Internet, things changed for the worse.

"We really thought that the Internet, or the 'interactive services business' as we called it back then, was going to change the world," Walsh said in a recent TED talk. "And we thought it was important that that sense of community, that sense of transparency, that sense of empowerment was really a set of core principles that all of us believed in...it really was a perfect time. But then the money showed up, and things changed...The internet is broken because of that money."

Be prepared for Joomla! 1.6 - Templates

I have been wondering how prepared Template Clubs such as Rocket Themes were for the imminent release of Joomla! 1.6 and had a discussion today with Andrew Eddie, Core Team Member at Joomla!

Here are key question and answers from the conversation on Linked in:

Q: re you anticipating that the 1.6 upgrade will also require new templates or will the 1.5 templates continue to work?

Andrew: Template upgrades are going to be interesting because the default styles are going to change. There will be like a legacy pack of layout overrides that we'll supply but I have no idea how reliable that's going to be. Any template that uses it's own layout overrides should be in a good position but we just don't know yet.
